I’m in Baltimore for business and probably need to drive home Friday afternoon around 4-5pm. This consists of 83/695/83N. How fucked am I?

When ever I have to drive to Virginia I make sure to leave around 3am to avoid Baltimore/D.C traffic.

If Baltimore’s beltway is anything like DC’s, quite fucked indeed. 4pm on Friday is notoriously awful.

I believe “seven ways to Sunday” would be an accurate description. Take snacks.

On a scale to 1 to Mad Max, I’m pretty sure its going to firmly set at Fury Road. Most major school systems in DC metro are closed Friday but it will still be a mess.

Heading west out of Baltimore I’ve got advice, heading north, I’ve got nothing. Luckily you’re only a short stretch on the beltway before branching back off onto 83 again.

I don’t know anything about traffic in the area, but how feasible would it be to park yourself at a Starbucks for an hour or two to slowly enjoy a cup of coffee while reading a good book?
For me, I’d rather spend a couple of hours unwinding and relaxing before getting on the road at a later hour than spending those same couple of hours in bumper to bumper traffic as my blood pressure and level of annoyance rise.
I find it better to kick back and relax for a while and get on the road later, when there’s less traffic. It may mean I’ll get home later than if I had just slogged through the traffic, but I’ll be in a much better mood when I finally DO get home.

It’s usually not *that* terrible, but I’m just guessing an extra 100k cars on the road is gonna be unpleasant.

It’s going to be bad. Real bad. Either try to find a way to get out by 3 or just have a nice dinner at one of the restaurants in the inner harbor and leave around 630-7.

I do it every week, too, but I’ve never been through inauguration traffic...
